COOPER BRIDGE

Dedication of Cooper Bridge - Capt. Phaneuf, Lt. Col. Harris and Lt. Baker (in front of troops)

The following photos have been provided by Dick Phaneuf (C.O. of "B" Co. March - Sept. 1967) and show the construction of Cooper Bridge over the Vinh Dien River. Cpl. Andrew Cooper was shot in a firefight here in May of 67.  Lt. Baker, along with other marines and a Corpsman, while under fire, rescued Cpl. Cooper from the river, but were unable to prevent his death. Capt. Phaneuf recommended the Corpsman for a Bronze Star.  Lt. Baker was killed by a mine explosion on Aug. 18, 1967.
